Wash your graters and garlic presses by hand
Having a dishwasher can save you hours of housework every day. Nevertheless, not every kitchen tool can be washed by a machine. Some items, like graters or garlic pressers, should always be washed by hand given that their nooks and crannies cannot be properly cleaned by the washer alone, and if food gets stuck inside the holes, it can rot and start to smell.
To avoid contaminating your food with moldy graters, make sure you wash these items separately. It is better to use a brush instead of a sponge since the sharp edges can shred the soft material and some pieces could get caught on the tool. This would certainly defeat the purpose of cleaning it, right?
