Choosing Your Holiday Destination

June 14, 2025 by Shelley Thompson

There are so many gorgeous places in the world, and it can be hard to select a destination. We’ll give you three options – one for each budget – whether you want to travel to the beach or the mountains, domestic and international!

#1: The Beach

Lots of people enjoy fun in the sun and sand on their toes. There’s something for everyone with a beach destination. Remember to bring plenty of sunscreen!

Budget: under $500 per person

  • Myrtle Beach and Tybee Island
    • These are East Coast beaches that are fun for tourists and won’t break the bank. Both offer a cute boardwalk and have hotels along the beach and a bit further out (which is considerably cheaper).

Tip: Room sharing with a friend and splitting the cost is one way to minimize money spent.

Budget: between $500-$2000 per person

  • Oaxaca, Mexico
    • Mexico is known for its beautiful beaches that won’t break the bank. Nestled along the Pacific Ocean, Oaxaca is not only gorgeous; the food is fantastic and low-priced. Going off-season will result in a much cheaper trip overall, but $1500 will cover airfare and hotels during even the busiest times.

Tip: Be careful of local water. Drink only bottled water and check with the hotel staff if the ice is potable. Getting sick on vacation is no fun!

Budget: over $2000 per person

  • Bocas Del Tor, Panama
    • This bioluminescent Panamanian beach will take your breath away. Find an all-inclusive resort nearby and book a nighttime tour of the coast. You can snorkel in the water or soak in the beauty on the sand. It’s a sight you’ll never forget!

Tip: Book a friendly guide for your tour early on. They’ll know all the local secret spots for the best trip ever. You’ll miss out if you save it for the last day!

#2: The Mountains

Not everyone loves the beach, and that’s okay! The mountains are just as beautiful and offer lovely hikes and gorgeous views! Depending on what you’ll want to do, check the local climate. Some places provide skiing year-round, and some never get snow!

Budget: under $500 per person

  • Ellijay, Georgia
    • This cozy town in northern Georgia offers private cabins for rent at amazing prices! If you love hiking and antiquing, this is the place for you. Nearby, Amicalola Falls offers a beautiful waterfall with stairs all the way up! You can also find several more waterfall hikes within a few hours’ drive, and gold mining in Dahlonega is just around the corner.

Tip: Go in the fall! With gorgeous foliage and apple picking galore, the fall time is the best time of year to enjoy every bit of this area.

Budget: between $500-$2000 per person

  • Estes Park, Colorado
    • Whether you’re looking to ski or hike, Estes Park is amazing. Rent a jeep and drive to the top of the mountain! The town nestled at the bottom is also simply charming and offers many boutiques.

Tip: Make sure to check when the park is open. It’s only available at certain times of the year, and due to hazardous conditions, it can close with very little notice.

Budget: over $2000 per person

  • Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica
    • This gorgeous volcano is a must-see! It’s considered one of the top places to visit in Costa Rica and offers exhilarating opportunities, like hot springs, zip lining, horseback tours, and a beautiful National Park. Pick out a classy hotel, and you’ll find yourself in the lap of luxury with abundant wildlife surrounding you!

Tip: Sign up for your excursions ahead of time. This is a very popular destination, and they might be booked when you arrive!

I’ve personally visited each of these places and can tell you they’re all fantastic and worth the trek! Have fun on your adventures!
