There is no time like the present to start planning a backyard oasis for the summertime. In fact, it’s better to have an idea of what you want to do now rather than to start making big decisions on a whim come late spring. If a backyard oasis isn’t even on your radar, we think you should strongly consider it! And of course, we have our reasons.

For one, if you enjoy entertaining, a beautiful outdoor spot is great for guests, especially if you incorporate things such as a sound system, a fire pit, and comfy chairs.
Even if you love entertaining, you can love sitting outside with a book and enjoying the peace and quiet just as much. If you have a beautiful backyard lush with plants, a garden, comfy furniture, or a pool, then you always have an area to escape to where time just kind of stops.
If you have a large family, an outdoor oasis is a place everyone can come to be together, but also not feel packed into.
A lot of us spend a large portion of our day looking at screens and really need a place to rest our eyes. A beautiful outdoor spot can be just that, a place to go rest our eyes in the sense that we won’t be straining them.
In short, an outdoor oasis, one that you’ve created yourself, can truly change your life. Between it being an area where you can always get some fresh air, Vitamin D, and a little extra family time (or peace and quiet) it’s not hard to understand why we’re so for transitioning your backyard to a beautiful spot you can enjoy. So let’s talk tips!
- Privacy should be your first priority. You can of course do this by building a large privacy fence, but if that isn’t your thing, there are other ways to create a barrier between your backyard and the rest of the world; big plants or rows of large bushy greenery are natural options to consider as well.

- Your next priority? Keeping the bugs out. There are a number of ways you can make sure that your peaceful days and nights in your backyard are bug-free (ish) such as planting things that naturally deter bugs, having citronella candles can also be super helpful. Make sure to eliminate any standing water, as that can attract pesky mosquitos. If bugs are a major problem, you may want to consider hiring a pest control service to see what they can do for you.
- Find an outdoor rug to create some coziness. If you have a patio or deck of some kind that you’ll be putting furniture on, find an outdoor rug to pull the area together. This brings a little indoor coziness to the outdoors, it can also add a fun pop of color.

- Make sure to include a dining area. You’ll find yourself eating outdoors a lot once you’re yard is bright, lush, and beautiful, so make sure you find a dining area big enough for you and your family or guests to enjoy a nice meal.
- Outdoor lighting ambiance is everything. Whether you do this with candles, tiki lights, or string lights, have some extra lighting for those nights that go a little longer than usual.
