Everything Has Its Place

June 23, 2025 by Shelley Thompson

Decluttering is one thing, but organizing is another. Take a moment and look around. Do you have the same type of items strewn across your living space? This can make a room look chaotic, even if it’s clean. By organizing your things and giving them each a central location, you can make your house look amazing without having to throw anything away!

While it’s fine having the book you’re reading on your nightstand, the rest should be proudly displayed on a bookshelf. Go around the house and gather them all up and have fun figuring out how you want to display them. You can sort by size, book cover color, or even alphabetically!

If you’re a crafter, you might have craft items everywhere. Choose a specific location to keep it in. Designate a room or a closet to get it organized. Even a corner of a room is acceptable if you don’t have an overwhelming number of items! As a crocheter, I have enough yarn to clothe a small army, but I use a modular bookshelf to keep it all organized and displayed and keep only my current project in a basket by the couch.

If you have children, you probably have toys everywhere. Stepping on legos at midnight is one sure-fire way to get you revved up about the toy situation. Invest in toy bins or use a chest of drawers to keep them tidied away. You’ll always know where to find them, and you can point your kids that way while they’re cleaning up their messes! If your kids have too many toys accessible at once and seem to be getting bored, try cycling out what’s available. They may have been tired of that toy last month, but if it makes a sudden reappearance, it can get them excited all over again!

Are you tired of picking up trash? Sometimes it gets left there because the trash bin is in another room. Make sure that each room in your house has at least a small waste bin, and people will be more likely to throw their stuff away. As we said, everything has its place, but that place needs to be accessible to keep other members of your family on track.

By organizing your home, you’re sure to feel great when you sit down to relax. If all else fails, turn on a marathon of Hoarders, and you’ll feel like your house is clean and tidy without having to do a thing.
