Getting Rid of Doggo Smell in Your Home

January 21, 2025 by Shelley Thompson

We love our dogs and we would go to the ends of the Earth for them. But on that same hand, if we had to choose one thing to change about them, it’s that they would always smell like they just left the dog spa, and never like they were fresh outta the pig pen. But let’s face it, life with a dog (or two or three) can be messy and sometimes smell pretty bad, but that doesn’t have to be your reality. Here are a few things you can be doing around your home to ensure it’s always smelling fresh to death.

Never turn down the opportunity to vacuum something. Pro-tip: disperse a few drops of your favorite essential oil onto your vacuum filter and when you vacuum anywhere, you’ll smell the oil which is a nice touch in itself. If you have a dog, you’ll appreciate this hack even more. Make sure you vacuum your floors, drapes, chairs, couch, rugs, you name it. And do this often to prevent fur and odor build-up. After you’ve vacuumed these areas, go ahead and give them a spray of Febreze fabric to keep them fresher longer.

If your dog has his or her own bed, make sure this is getting cleaned once a week. A smelly dog bed will quickly fill an entire room with the aroma.

If you can open up your windows, do it. We get it, during the hot, hot heat or the bitterly cold winters, this isn’t possible, but on those days when the sun is shining, the temperature is just right, and you can get that perfect breeze blowing through your house, take advantage of it and air your house out.

Make sure your precious fur baby is getting a bath as often as he or she should be, or that they’re taking regular trips to the groomers to get spiffied up. Not only is this important to the health of your dog, but it’s vital to keep them smelling good.

Air purifiers are great for a number of things such as dust, and pollen, and for keeping other allergens in your home at bay, but what you might not have considered is that they’re also great at keeping odors out. (Just make sure to clean or change the filter regularly!)

Sometimes our dogs can be awfully sneaky, so if you have access to a blacklight, go ahead and bust that bad boy out to find any otherwise hidden urine spots that could be the source of the smells. Get these cleaned up as soon as you find them and we have a feeling you’ll smell the difference soon.
