Make House Cleaning Fun!

June 5, 2025 by Shelley Thompson

House cleaning is called a chore for a reason. It takes time and can be rather labor-intensive. By spicing it up a bit, you can have fun while adding that sparkle and shine that makes you feel accomplished! Here are a few ways to engage your body and brain and get that serotonin flowing!

Read a Book Whilst Doing Dishes

If you’re an avid reader, there’s no need to set your book aside. Prop it up at an optimal viewing spot while you scrub away. Your mind will be on an adventure while your hands wash. Using an e-reader makes this a bit easier, but you can also use your grandmother’s recipe holder to prop your paperback up!

Practice a TikTok Dance Whilst Vacuuming

No one sits around and watches you clean. You’ve shooed them all away with your mighty cleaning powers! This is the perfect time to practice that Tiktok dance you’ve been trying to land. You’ll have to stick with the fancy footwork so you can still use the vacuum cleaner, but at least you’ll be having a good time!

Play an Audiobook or Podcast Whilst Cleaning General Things

These are pretty mindless tasks, and they are a great chance to learn something new or catch up on the news. Before you know it, you’ll forget your even wiping things down while you argue with podcast talkers or a protagonist about their actions. “Why, John? WHY?!” You can also take an online class and listen to their lectures!

Turn On Some Music

Music makes everything better. Bonus points if other people who aren’t helping you are home and don’t know the lyrics. Crank that music up and belt out your favorite songs while cleaning. Not only does this add a level of fun, but you’ll also find yourself cleaning to the beat, so choose some fast-paced songs, and you’ll be done in no time. Make a playlist for each part of the house!

Get Your Kids Involved

It might take a little longer, but getting your kids involved in the process can make for a lot of laughs. Set up a cleaning relay and time them racing through the house to get an item put up where it belongs. Get their help folding the laundry and make goofy faces at each other, or have an overdue heart to heart about how their lives are going. Spending time with the fam is always a plus, and by making chores fun, you’ll set them up for enjoying their own clean house in the future!

Now go and give your house a polish and when you’re done, pour yourself a glass of wine and toast to a job well done!
