Painting Walls to Liven Up Your Room

September 16, 2021 by Shelley Thompson

Are you tired of staring at boring walls with no personality? You’re not alone. People worldwide are taking paintbrushes, sponges, tape, stencils, and textured rollers to fix up their rooms and put a smile on their faces. Regardless of which method you choose, the variety of colors available is astounding, and by using a color pallet to mix and match, the results can be breathtaking! Let’s explore the different methods to help you figure out which one is right for you!

If you’re looking for a subtle change, using a texted paintbrush in the original color can add a hint of personality without requiring a considerable commitment and overhaul. This is the best choice if you want to upgrade the look without altering the color.

Sponge painting is another way to change the look without repainting the entire space. Using a metallic color or even a subtle shade difference can add depth to an otherwise bland wall. Try using different sponges for maximum effect. You can also layer colors from a specific pallet to create dreamy combinations.

Stencils are another excellent way to change the look drastically. Many companies offer complete wall stencils, and they adhere and lay flat while you paint without damaging the paint already there. This is an excellent option for those that might be less artistically inclined. You can also find stencils that run along the base and header boards!

If you love geometric patterns and stark color contrasts, using painter’s tape to block off shapes can really take an accent wall to the next level. You can use white and black or go wild with rainbow colors. Depending on how intricate you want it, you can alter the size of the shapes, too.

One of the newer options on the market is textured rollers. From flowers to wavy lines, this is a quick way to add neat decor to your walls. Be sure to practice on cardboard before you start, and don’t overload the roller, or you’ll lose the full effect.

Regardless of which method you choose, spend time planning it out. Peruse different palettes until you find the perfect one, and unless you’re planning a complete redo of the furniture and colors already in the room, be sure the palette matches. If you’re unsure which contrasting colors to use or which similar colors work well together, invest in a color wheel. Also, before committing and buying full gallons, grab a few sample jars from your local hardware store. Paint can look drastically different after it dries, and you want to be sure you’ve chosen colors you like.
