Paint the bottom of the lock in a bright color to make sure it is locked from afar
We have all seen those videos of dogs testing out with their paws if the glass door to the patio is open or closed. The poor animals have clearly been scarred by running into them one too many times. However, humans can have the same problem. If you want a better way of identifying whether the door is locked or not, try this.
Paint the bottom of the lock a bright color with some nail polish or acrylic paint. That way, you will be sure that the patio door is locked without having to walk over and try it. This will also help you make sure you will not run into any glass. If you see the colored strip, there is surely something between you and the outside.
