Many big-brand beauty products contain harmful ingredients and are super expensive. To know what you’re putting on your skin, DIY your own products. It doesn’t take as much time as you’d think and certainly costs less. Many of the ingredients are probably already lying around in your kitchen. Here are five natural beauty products to make– you won’t buy them ever again!
Brightening face mask
Who doesn’t want bright, soft, and radiant skin? You can quickly detoxify your face with a soothing and brightening berry mask. The antioxidants present in blueberries protect against free radicals and repair previous damage, while vitamin C from lemons brightens skin.
Combine one tablespoon of crushed ripe blueberries, one tablespoon of lemon juice, one tablespoon of cucumber, two tablespoons of baking soda, and two tablespoons of water; spread onto the face. Let the mixture sit for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse, and you’re good to go!
Clarifying face mask
Regulate your skin’s pH with apple cider’s high levels of alpha-hydroxy acids and remove excess oil and buildup with ground oats. The oats contain saponins, a naturally powerful cleanser that penetrates skin layers and clarifies your face. It’s also one of the easiest to make.
Combine three teaspoons of ground oats and ¼ apple cider until a smooth paste forms. Then add ¼ tablespoon lemon juice and ½ tablespoon brown sugar; stir until the mixture is even. Apply to freshly cleansed skin and leave for 15 minutes.
Detoxifying body scrub
This natural scrub has a texture that’s strong enough to slough off any dead skin and reveal smooth, radiant legs and arms. Coconut milk has a high volume of hydrating, healthy fats, and ginger decreases inflammation and detoxifies the skin.
Mix ½ cup ground rice (grind in a blender), ½ cup coconut milk, ¼ cup brown sugar, and 1½ tablespoon ground ginger to form a paste. Rub the mixture in a circular motion all over your body.
Anti-wrinkle face mask
Blend ½ of fresh papaya (seedless), one tablespoon of plain Greek yogurt, one tablespoon of white tea (brewed and cooled), one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, and one organic egg white in a food processor until it forms a paste. Apply to the face and neck.
Papaya works like magic for the skin. The alpha-hydroxy acids in it work as a natural exfoliator; the egg whites are high in protein and help rebuild skin and tighten pores. With fresh papaya, Greek yogurt, and other nutritious ingredients, this hack is the real deal.
Anti-puff eye mask
Create a spa-like environment and look well-rested at the same time with a DIY cucumber mask. Grating the cucumber will release the active enzymes: This eye mask will help with puffiness and allergies, as it calms and soothes this delicate area of the skin.
Take a cold cucumber and grate it over a paper towel on a plate. Once you’ve finished grating, wrap the pieces like a burrito and compress them. Rest your head back and apply to closed eyes for an instant soothing effect.
