Organizing your house isn’t the most glamorous chore. It seems so daunting that you’d rather not start at all. But then, cleaning and decluttering your space simplifies things, freshens the air, and lifts your mood. Not sure where to start? There are certain places to get started for more effective cleaning.
Even cleaning requires a winning strategy
Knowing exactly what you have to do prepares you. We recommend a walkthrough of your home, starting in the entryway. You could grab a pen and a notepad or tablet and walk through every room, noting down all that needs to be done.
Write down three primary organizing tasks that need to be done in each room. This could be anything from decluttering and donating items to deep cleaning and purchasing storage containers. This step also helps you get those cleaning supplies you don’t have.
Give your bathroom a total revamp
The best way to get this done is to start by taking as much as possible out of your bathroom for more space. After taking stuff out, start by washing windows, dusting window sills and frames, washing curtains, and cleaning towel hooks and vents.
Also, wash the bathroom tiles, clean mirrors, sanitize all hardware, scrub grout, and deep clean the toilet, shower, and sink. Then, bring in all the freshly washed linens. You should also organize the bathroom drawers.
Declutter your bedroom closet
It’s amazing how much stuff seems to accumulate and how quickly it can begin to take over every surface in your home. Decluttering is an essential step in the organizing process and one that you’ll want to repeat every couple of months.
To organize your bedroom closet, take out all the clothing and other items it holds. Lay them out on your bed and sort what you use, what you can donate, and what may be damaged and needs to be discarded. Make three piles for each of those categories. Then, clean the closet and put the items back in.
Never forget the pantry
The pantry is always one of the most disorganized parts of the house. The best way to tackle this area is to divide it into sections. Take everything out and wipe clean all shelves, wash any storage containers, and mop the floor.
Arrange like-items such as baking supplies or kids’ snacks in clear plastic bins and use airtight storage containers to hold staples such as flour, sugar, and pasta. Go the extra step and add a cute label to each container.
Handle that junk drawer
We all have that one drawer where we throw miscellaneous items we’re unsure what to do with. These areas can quickly become cluttered with items we don’t need or use. Old phone chargers, cables, or even random buttons could fall under this category.
From expired credit cards and membership cards to several old receipts, there are many items you don’t need in your junk drawer. However, we recommend disposing of any item with your personal information properly- cut them up or shred them.
