Establishing and creating an accent wall is a really simple way to change your space in a big way. Even if you’re a renter, even if you’re on a budget, you can take that wall your sick of looking at or that wall you just can’t figure out, and turn it into the best spectacle. If you’re still not convinced, we have some accent wall tips for you. Let’s get started!
Unsure of what wall you should want to start playing with? As a general rule of thumb, your accent wall should more than likely be the first wall both you and guests see when they (or you!) enter a room.
Consider your options when it comes to how you’re planning on creating this accent wall. One option you have is simply painting the wall a new color. If a solid color doesn’t sound like it’s creating enough of an accent for you, consider some kind of design. If you know you can’t get away with painting, consider some peel-and-stick wallpaper. This trick is renter-friendly, budget-friendly, and easy to take down when the day comes. And if you’re really super talented, consider painting a mural on the wall that is entirely your design and your style.
If you like to keep a neutral house, don’t think for a second that this means you can’t have an accent wall. Even if you tend to lean toward shades of gray, beige, white, and sage, your accent wall can be just as show-stopping in charcoal gray.
We’ve talked a lot about painting an accent wall or even transforming one by using wallpaper, but there are other avenues to consider like shiplap or tile. Shiplap is a process that uses horizontal shiplap panels, and ceramic tile is not only durable but easy to install. As a renter, there are options when it comes to tile, such as the peel and stick alternative. This can be bought in sheets and looks just as good as the real thing.

This is probably a no-brainer, but make sure you consider the walls that are surrounding the wall you’re wanting to turn into your accent wall. You wouldn’t want to accidentally create a chaotic or clashy space, now would you?
One of the easiest ways to transform a plain wall into an accent wall is to turn it into a gallery wall. This can be done with photographs of your family, prints you’ve purchased, and even free printables you can nab on Pinterest or Etsy.
If a gallery wall isn’t really your thing, consider wall decals, neon signs, shelving, and/or even plant babes to show off your inside plant babies.
