Prom Hair Ideas: How to Achieve Red-Carpet Worthy Tresses Without a Trip to the Salon

August 6, 2024 by Shelley Thompson

You might have planned to go all out for your prom, only to discover that time has crept up on you and your budget is limited. Well, don’t worry, you’re not at a dead-end. Regardless of your hair length, you can rock several amazing hairdos without spending a fortune at the salon. In this article, we’ll talk about five of these dope prom hairstyles. Let’s get right into it.

Low Bun

This style is perfect for those with shorter hair. It’s one of the fastest options; you don’t even need to wash your hair, as second-day hair gives it more texture. However, the fact that it’s easy doesn’t mean you won’t turn heads.

Start by slicking your hair back with a dash of lightweight hair serum- then fix the slicked hair with hairspray. Secure your hair with an elastic band and roll the ends together however you like. You could pull out some strands to frame your face.

Fishtail braid

This is one of the prettiest braids for your prom. Contrary to the common belief, the fishtail isn’t tricky to make. Perfect for people with long hair, the fishtail braid keeps your hair in control and gives you an effortlessly beautiful look.

First, divide your hair into two sections, then take a small section from the back of the left-hand section and pull it over the top to join the right-hand section. Then, take a small hair section from the back of the right-hand section and pull it over to join the left-hand section. Continue like that and secure it with an invisible elastic.

High Ponytail

You’re probably wondering why the common ponytail is on this list of dope prom hairstyles. We’re not talking about the typical gym ponytail; we’re referring to the classy ponytail that shows off your dress’ neckline and gives you a boss lady look.

After prepping your hair with a heat protection spray and blow-drying, lift hair sections and spray some volumizing hairspray directly into your roots. Then secure the ponytail with a band; then run your straightener through the tail for a polished finish. The high ponytail works for both mid-length and long hair.

Messy Updo

This hair is perfect for those with mid-length hair. We particularly love the messy updo because it gives your formal look a touch of party vibe. Also, it’s as easy as the other hairdos on this list.

You have to start by securing your hair roughly into a high ponytail. Then, gently backcomb sections of hair before wrapping them around the elastic. You could pull out strands to frame your face as you like.

Curly Hair

The curly hairdo is excellent for both mid-length and long hair- the key is volume. The good thing is that you don’t have to apply heat to your hair to get the perfect bouncy curls- so how do you go about it?

The first step is plaiting your hair before bed, securing it with non-snag elastics, and sleeping in the braids. In the morning, remove the elastics and add a light misting of hairspray to keep the shape of your curls.
